At Seema Desai Counselling, I practice what's known as an integrative approach to therapy. But what does that mean for you?
Counselling and therapy refer to types of talking treatments that aim to help people manage and overcome mental health issues.
You can contact me via the form or phone. I will respond as soon as possible to arrange a free initial call and explore whether we’re a good fit.
Life can be unpredictable. Anxiety, grief, relationship struggles, cultural pressures—or simply trying to make sense of things—can feel overwhelming. Therapy offers a safe space for support and clarity.
I’m Seema Desai, a registered counsellor based in South West London. I help people from all walks of life navigate challenges such as trauma, life transitions, anxiety, relationship issues, and feelings of “stuckness.” My approach is gentle and client-centred, giving you space to explore what matters most at your own pace.
My path into counselling is deeply personal. I’ve had counselling myself several times, each experience helping me in new ways.
At first, I trained because I couldn’t find the right support for my son and wanted to help him. I thought I was “healed,” but in truth, training as a counsellor took me on a deeper journey—to fall apart, piece myself back together, and embrace being a work in progress.
Like the Japanese art of kintsugi—where broken pottery is repaired with gold—I believe therapy honours our cracks instead of hiding them. The places where we have struggled can become the places where we are strongest, most authentic, and most human.
I also spent five years designing and running a community project that supported mainly women impacted by domestic abuse. In this role, I provided training, supervision, and assessment, and ran groups for men, CAPVA (Child / adolescent to parent violence and abuse) and other specific groups, creating safe spaces for people to come together, share experiences, and connect. This gave me deep insight into the resilience of survivors and their children, as well as the complexities of recovery, and reinforced my belief that everyone affected by abuse deserves support.
Before retraining, I spent over a decade working in the City of London and a year in New York. I understand the demands of high-pressure environments where you’re constantly giving but rarely pausing to take stock. That experience helps me connect with those navigating workplace stress, cultural expectations, and the quiet weight of perfectionism.
Promoting trust and collaboration. You lead the way. This approach provides a warm, non-judgemental space where your thoughts, feelings, and experiences are heard and valued.
We explore how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours are connected, and develop practical tools to manage anxiety, stress, or unhelpful thinking patterns.
This looks at how your past experiences and relationships might be shaping your present. Gaining insight into these patterns can help you feel more in control and self-aware.
These can help you stay present and grounded during emotionally difficult times, reducing overwhelm and increasing self-compassion.
In our early sessions, we’ll focus on what’s bringing you to therapy and what feels most important to you right now. That might include specific challenges like anxiety or grief, or broader themes like identity, self-worth, or life transitions.
As we go, I’ll introduce tools and techniques that align with your needs. We’ll regularly check in on what’s working — and I’ll always welcome your feedback. Therapy is most effective when it’s a collaborative process.
💻 Sessions are held remotely (video or phone), with occasional in-person availability in Mitcham. Some clients choose a set number of sessions; others prefer ongoing support. We’ll find what works best for you, starting with a free 15-minute consultation.
Further details about payment, scheduling, and practicalities can be found on the FAQ page.
Therapy isn’t about “fixing” you. It’s about creating a safe, compassionate space to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with yourself. Together, we can explore the stories you carry—some that help you grow, others that may hold you back—and move toward something more aligned.
✨ Small insights—those “lightbulb moments” when something clicks—can gradually lead to meaningful, lasting change.
Seema is a thoughtful and compassionate counsellor who brings a calm, non-judgmental presence to every conversation. She showed me genuine empathy, especially as a guy, listened attentively and created a safe space where I felt really comfortable opening up. Her ability to understand and support me through the difficult time that I was going through I feel is a real strength and she consistently demonstrated a really good level of emotional intelligence and professionalism throughout.
Seema has a dignified, attentive and calming collaborative working style. She worked with me to help me lift the cloud of haze that had surrounded me for quite some time and helped arm me with the tools I needed to steer a clear path forward. There is no easy to fix to any of this but working with someone who is diligent, empathetic and wants the best for you has got to be the right start. I am grateful to her for utilising her knowledge and combining this with her clear communicative style. I am and will be forever grateful to her for giving me the hope and courage to move on. Thank you!
Working with Seema has been a truly transformative experience. She is incredibly empathic, understanding, and easy to talk to. Her clear approach and thoughtful insights helped me feel supported while also giving me the clarity I needed to see things from a new perspective. Seema approaches things with a grounded but gentle approach and I always felt heard and valued in our sessions. I’m very grateful for the positive changes she has helped me make in my life.
Seema held my hand through some of my darkest moments and helped me see the wood from the trees. There was an authenticity to her that shone through in every session — she brought compassion and honesty, gently challenged me when I needed it, and always came from a place of care. She related to me as a human being, which made me feel truly seen, heard, and valued.
Coming out of a toxic relationship left me feeling completely lost and overwhelmed by resentment, anxiety, and grief. I felt stuck, constantly replaying events in my head. Working with Seema was the turning point I desperately needed.
Seema provided a safe, non-judgmental space where I felt completely seen and understood—not just for the pain, but for the complex thoughts behind it.
Crucially, she didn't just validate my feelings; Seema equipped me with specific, actionable strategies to process the resentment and anxiety that was controlling me. I now have the tools to cope with loss and am building a much healthier, happier life for myself. I highly recommend Seema’s counselling services to anyone navigating a difficult separation.
Triple P Resilience: What stood out for me was the sense of community Seema was able to convey with our group of parents. It was reassuring to hear direct from our parents who were all facing similar challenges that Seema was incredibly supportive. Seema listened, shared advice, and created a space where our parents felt empowered.
Triple P Resilience: I observed Seema throughout the programme and observed a warm, engaging and nurturing delivery style. I was impressed with how well Seema delivered complex materials and kept the parents and children engaged throughout. We received very positive feedback on the delivery and identified positive outcomes from this first cohort. I was impressed by Seema’s willingness to be the first to deliver this programme outside of Australia and how seamless it was. Seema was very easy to work with, always responsive, solution-focused and professional in manner. I would highly recommend Seema for any parenting facilitation.
